Harmony

Artist Statement:

Harmony

Of all the truths we live with, the most profound is our intrinsic bond with nature. We are not separate from it, we are of it.

My work is an exploration of this fragile, essential connection and a quiet lament for the harmony we have broken. Using charcoal and soft pastels, I draw the human form and organic shapes, a figure that echoes the curve of a river. These are not just drawings, they are wishes, visual prayers for a symbiosis we’ve forgotten. The smudged edges and blending tones are deliberate, suggesting that our boundaries with the natural world are not hard lines, but permeable breathing spaces.

This dialogue continues in stone. The sculptures, carved from the very earth I seek to protect, often bear the marks of human conflict with nature. A smooth, flowing form is interrupted by a harsh, geometric fracture, representing the scars of deforestation and unchecked urban sprawl. The stone itself is a teacher, reminding me of the patience and respect required to reveal form, a lesson we desperately need to apply to our planet.

This exhibition is not an accusation, but a reflection. It is my attempt to hold up a mirror, asking us to see the beautiful, terrible truth, that in wounding the earth, we are only ever wounding ourselves. I create not from a place of anger, but from a deep, aching hope that we can remember how to listen, before nature’s response becomes its final, irrevocable word.

Rashid Amin - Nairobi - November 2025

Artist Biography

Rashid Amin, born 1990, is a sculptor whose early education in the picturesque valley of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan, instilled in him a deep appreciation for nature. This profound connection to the natural world has significantly influenced his artistic journey. Karachi, Pakistan, became his second home, where he earned a Certificate of Fine Arts in 2012 from the Arts Council Institute of Arts and Crafts. With over a decade of experience in stone sculpting, Rashid has showcased his talent through various themed exhibitions. He has attended numerous art festivals and undertaken commissioned work in both the public and private sectors. Rashid’s work has been featured in group exhibitions nationally and internationally, including in China and Dubai. A recent solo exhibition, “Anthropogenic,” focused on the theme of endangered animal species. The term “Anthropogenic” refers to the effects and processes that are the result of human activity, highlighting the impact of human actions on the environment and wildlife. This exhibition aimed to raise awareness about the threats faced by endangered species due to human activities. Currently based in Nairobi, Kenya, Rashid continues to draw inspiration from nature, infusing his sculptures with the beauty and complexity of the natural world.
