Ode to Nature
This collection of stoneware studio pottery is my ode to nature. We are made of the earth, we live by its gifts and are nought without it. It is inspired by the manifestation of forms, colour and patterns of flora we see in nature. This collection is also a wish and hope for us to always cherish, preserve and nurture the earth that sustains us.

I was born in India, spent my childhood and youth mostly in New Delhi and later, as a public relations and marketing professional I travelled and worked across India and internationally.
I have been drawn to work with clay for as long as I can remember but a demanding corporate career did not allow me the luxury till I moved to Kenya 18 years ago and found the most wonderful teacher in Master Ceramicist Waithira Chege. About eleven years ago I set up my own studio balancing my passion for stoneware pottery with work, family and home.
I find high fired stoneware the most fascinating kind of pottery. Firing earth to volcanic heat, over 1100 degrees centigrade,  to craft stone and the colours formed from the play of oxides and minerals at that heat. Every kiln opening is like unwrapping a mystery gift where you can never quite predict what the kiln gods are going to bestow on you. The many variables of clay body, glaze chemistry and consistency, temperature and even weather on the day all add their own magic.
Creating forms comes from a state of flow; feeling the clay, how it moves and moulds with the slightest pressure, inspiration comes intuitively and all other thoughts and cares are suspended in that passage of time. I present my work as asters_in_my_kiln which echoes my inspiration from the natural world in everything I create.
