Munene Kariithi
Born 1990, Kenyan
Munene Kariithi's interest in art started at a young age, although there was a disconnection after art education was removed from the school syllabus.
He had always admired murals in butcheries and hotels while growing up. Munene studied computer information systems in school but later shifted to visual art. His artistic journey has involved learning from other artists, the internet, research and experimentation. He primarily works with acrylic but with other mediums as well, depending with the nature of an idea.
Munene’s work speaks of today’s society, as he explores daily life he looks at: migration, movements, the impact of technology, power relations, social restrictions, and inequality.
Munene currently works from his studio in Kasarani, Nairobi.
